Sound of Sleat Legacy Series Chapter 4
About
Sound of Sleat is the fourth chapter in Torabhaig's Limited Legacy Series, a run of limited editions showcasing how the distillery's style evolves toward its first fully matured release. The name honours the narrow, powerful strait separating Skye from the Scottish mainland—Linne Shlèite in Gaelic—that runs beside the distillery itself. This young single malt (matured 5–6 years) is aged entirely in American oak: 75% first-fill bourbon barrels, 20% virgin American oak, and 5% refill bourbon barrels. Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, with no added colour. The spirit draws from Concerto and Laureate malted barley varieties, delivering an expressive, characterful dram. Torabhaig's philosophy is 'smoke with taste'—peat refined rather than punishing. The nose opens with bright citrus and orange, seaweed, and a salty sea breeze; subtle tobacco deepens the smoke. The palate follows with honey and vanilla, a waxy edge, nori-like seaweed notes, and white pepper in the background. The finish is elegant and smoky, with lingering warmth. This is a robust yet balanced whisky that delivers exactly what you'd hope for from a young Isle of Skye single malt: refined peat character, maritime saltiness, and sweet vanilla—especially rewarding on stormy autumn nights.
