Torabhaig Sound of Sleat: Chapter 4 of the Legacy Series
Torabhaig unveils Sound of Sleat, the fourth chapter in its Limited Legacy Series. This young Isle of Skye single malt has matured for 5-6 years and represents an important milestone in the distillery's evolution. Named after the Linne Shlèite—the powerful strait separating Skye from mainland Scotland—this whisky embodies Torabhaig's philosophy: refined smoke with character.
Sound of Sleat is matured entirely in American oak: 75% first-fill bourbon casks, 20% virgin American oak, and 5% refill bourbon casks. Bottled at 46% ABV, it is non-chill filtered with no added color. The spirit is crafted from Concerto and Laureate barley varieties, delivering an expressive and characterful single malt.
Tasting Profile
On the nose, Sound of Sleat reveals bright citrus and orange alongside maritime notes and subtle smoke, with tobacco adding depth. The palate follows with smoky, sweet notes of honey and vanilla, complemented by white pepper and gentle spices. The finish is medium-length, elegant, and smoky with lingering warmth. The maritime character is particularly distinctive, with seaweed notes providing a distinctly coastal dimension.
The Verdict
This robust yet balanced dram perfectly captures what you'd expect from a young Isle of Skye single malt. At approximately 60 euros, Sound of Sleat offers excellent value for whisky enthusiasts seeking refined peat and coastal character.
