Chorizo Glow is a 16-year-old Speyside single malt from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, matured in a combination of first fill Pedro Ximénez hogshead and second fill oloroso hogshead. This cask pairing delivers the whisky's distinctive spicy-sweet character. The nose opens with fresh, spirited notes of vanilla and coconut, supported by green fruit and hay. Water reveals citrus elements. On the palate, the whisky bursts with ginger cake, chilli oil, and creamy American oak sweetness, followed by caramelised brown sugars and bitters. Black pepper and tarry notes persist, transitioning into oak tannins. The finish alternates between sweet and spicy — cinnamon and speculaas spice linger. This is a whisky that doesn't hide its cask influence; the sherry maturation is present without overwhelming, and the cask strength ABV of 63.2% gives full expression to the layered flavours.
