Amrut Fusion made history in 2004 as India's first single malt whisky, and in 2010 earned international validation when whisky critic Jim Murray scored it 82 out of 100. The name captures its core identity: a blend of two terroirs. 75% unpeated Indian barley and 25% peated Scottish barley are fermented and distilled separately, then matured together in bourbon casks.
Amrut's distillery in Bangalore sits at approximately 3,000 feet elevation, where tropical heat and low humidity accelerate maturation dramatically. The angel share runs 12–15% annually—nearly three times higher than Scottish distilleries. What takes Scotch a decade happens here in four years. That acceleration shapes the whisky's character: vigorous, youthful, restless with energy.
Amber in the glass. The nose is rich and direct: warm vanilla, brown sugar, barley, with blood orange, citrus peel, and a whisper of peat. The palate is refined—dark chocolate, plums, oak, mocha, and spice, with a creamy mouthfeel. The finish is long and full, orange and peat entwined, with black pepper and cinnamon that linger.
This is not a whisky that imitates Scotland. It proves that speed and altitude create something entirely its own.
