About
Bunnahabhain, meaning 'river mouth' in Gaelic, was established in 1881 on Islay's northern coast. Unlike its heavily peated neighbours, this distillery crafts an unpeated, coastal-influenced style defined by its briny, maritime character. This 8-year-old Staoisha is bottled at cask strength from refill bourbon casks. At this youthful stage, the whisky already displays the Bunnahabhain signature: a blend of salt spray, smoked malt, and a warm, dry structure that requires no dilution to reveal its complexity. On the nose, candied sugar and citrus emerge, supported by a dry, smoky foundation. The palate is full and chewy, with a warm peat embrace that offers comfort without overwhelming. The finish lingers with that characteristic sea-soaked oak.
