Justerini & Brooks began as a wine merchant in London's St. James's in 1749, when Giacomo Justerini from Bologna arrived to pursue an Italian opera singer. From those aristocratic circles emerged a spirits business. Not until the 1930s—shortly after American Prohibition ended—did the company launch its blended Scotch whisky. J&B Rare stands apart through a distinctive recipe: exactly 42 different single malts and grain whiskies, anchored by Speyside expressions.
The blend matures for a minimum of three years in oak. The composition is carefully calibrated: lighter than many rivals, yet with enough maltiness and structure to hold its ground. This is no showpiece; it's a workhorse that ships millions of bottles globally each year.
