Rye Whiskey
Cask Strength
Sagamore Spirit was founded in 2015 by Kevin Plank, Under Armour's founder, to revive Maryland's storied rye whiskey heritage. The name draws from Sagamore Farm, a thoroughbred horse farm 22 miles from the Port Covington distillery in Baltimore. This Cask Strength expression is a blend of two distinct mash bills—a high-rye and a low-rye variant—each aged 4 to 7 years, combining to create a full, uncompromising profile.
The high-rye and low-rye components work in concert: the high-rye delivers spice and tart citrus, while the low-rye adds roundness and sweetness. Whiskeys aged seven years contribute deeper chocolate and vanilla character, while younger stocks bring brightness and citrus notes. Bottled at cask strength (56.1% ABV) without dilution, this rye retains its full force and layered complexity.
On the nose: honey, vanilla, and black licorice. The palate presents dark chocolate, black pepper, and brown sugar, tempered by a touch of honey. The finish is dry and peppery, with lingering spice that underscores Maryland's rye legacy.
