The Spice Tree
Lost Distillery Jericho Classic Selection
Jericho Classic Selection is a blended malt from the Lost Distillery Company, a modern venture dedicated to reconstructing lost Scottish distilleries. The original Jericho Distillery was founded in 1822 by William Smith, a deeply religious farmer in the Highlands, and named after the Jordan Burn that supplied its water. Though the distillery itself vanished long ago, Lost Distillery Company has used archival research to recreate this blended malt—a blend of roasted grain and barley from multiple Highland sources.
The composition draws on historical recipes and is finished in ex-sherry casks, accounting for its deep colour and rich flavour profile. This gives it a warm, fruity foundation with spice and vanilla notes.
On the nose, it reveals an oily, fruity character with raisins, brown sugar, and bran-like cereal notes, followed by hints of vanilla and oak. The palate is grain-forward, with orange peel, raisins, and touches of pepper and cinnamon, though some drinkers detect a somewhat youthful, spirity edge. The finish is warm and medium-length, with oak spices and a dry fade.
