Glendronach, established in the Valley of Forgue in the Scottish Highlands since 1826, is renowned for its rich sherried character—and this 20-year-old from 2006 exemplifies that tradition. Bottled at cask strength (51.9%) with just 205 bottles released, it represents a limited opportunity to experience the distillery at full intensity. The whisky matured in refill bourbon casks before finishing in first-fill American oak oloroso sherry hogshead for approximately 20 months. This combination of traditional bourbon maturation followed by intensive sherry finishing builds the full body and complexity that defines Glendronach's house style. On the nose, poached pear, lychee, and honey emerge alongside almond and freshly roasted coconut. The palate brings beeswax and toasted oak, while the finish lingers long and warm.
