About

Woodrow's of Edinburgh releases this 18-year-old Ben Nevis from single cask #9044 as part of their 'Warehouse Reserve' collection, distilled in 2007. It's an unconventional choice by the independent bottler: after 13 years in a refill bourbon hogshead, the spirit was finished in American and European oak casks previously used for Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez — a pairing that sharpens Ben Nevis' natural fruitiness and mineral character. At 48.9% ABV, this cask delivers a full, oily texture with dark fruit, cocoa, and roasted nuts. The nose reveals red fruit sweetness with a salty, coastal air and oak spice. On the palate, olive oil-like malt and tropical fruit mingle with pepper and that distinctive Ben Nevis mineral funk — a flinty edge that sets the distillery apart. The finish is long and savoury, with lingering fruit and spice that fade slowly. This is Ben Nevis at maturity: not smooth, but honest and layered, with enough structure to reward multiple glasses.
