About
The Sexton is the creation of Alex Thomas, one of Ireland's few female master blenders, who spent years honing her craft before launching this expression. The name draws from the Medieval Latin 'sacristanus'—custodian of sacred objects—a fitting metaphor for a whisky assembled with deliberate care. Triple-distilled in copper pot stills (the Irish standard) and aged four years in first, second, and third fill Oloroso sherry casks, The Sexton balances sweet sherry character with toasted oak without letting either dominate. The layered cask regimen is key to its composure. On the nose, dried fruit, almond, and subtle spice—cinnamon, nutmeg—emerge alongside roasted bread and a whisper of sherry. The palate is soft but structured, with caramel sweetness and fresh fruit notes, finishing dry and clean. For a young single malt, it carries surprising maturity and restraint.
