About

Old Pulteney was founded in 1826 by James Henderson in Wick, named after Pulteneytown, the newly built fishing port. As Scotland's most northerly mainland distillery, it was accessible only by sea—a maritime geography that defines its character to this day. This 18-year-old single malt, bottled by independent bottler Dram Mor in 2026, has been finished in a first fill Oloroso quarter cask, which complements Pulteney's natural coastal salinity with maturity and depth. The nose displays the distillery's signature coastal notes—salt and brine—layered with honey, boiled sweets, and herbs. On the palate, the whisky balances beautifully between sweetness (toffee, honeycomb) and maritime character (salted notes, menthol), with biscuity elements of shortbread and oatcakes. The finish is long and gently tingling, a blend of coastal herbs and dry oak that fades gracefully. A grown-up, well-composed dram that respects its 18 years of maturation without heaviness—quintessential Pulteney for those who appreciate the subtlety of a maritime malt.
