About
Tyrconnell takes its name from a legendary racehorse who defied the odds to win the prestigious National Produce Stakes in 1876. The chestnut colt, owned by Andrew Alexander Watt, became the namesake for what would grow into an iconic Irish whisky brand. After decades of dormancy, Cooley Distillery revived Tyrconnell, restoring the historic recipe and character that made it distinctive. This single malt is crafted from the finest Irish barley and pure spring water, fermented and distilled in traditional pot stills. The spirit matures in ex-bourbon casks, which give it its classic, approachable profile. On the nose, orchard fruits emerge—apple, citrus, and hints of tropical notes—alongside honey and a delicate floral quality. The palate opens with grain and sweetness, developing into a dry, cereal-driven finish touched with caramel. This is a whisky that rewards restraint: refined rather than assertive, equally at home as an everyday pour or after dinner.
