16 Year Old 2010 The Whisky Agency Ruby Port Barrique
About
This is one of The Whisky Agency's Port cask experiments from spring 2026—a run where the independent bottler appears to have acquired a stock of Ruby Port barriques. The Benriach, distilled in 2010 and 16 years in cask, emerges in a rose-gold hue, typical of Port-matured whisky. The nose opens dark and savoury: roasted pecans, walnuts, dark chocolate, and a moderate meaty note that fades with air. Ripe blackberries, prune jam, and baked apples follow, with salted butter caramel and a subtle mint edge. The aromas finish in heavily roasted raisin biscuits and hints of herbal honey. On the palate it becomes more vinous, with herbal elements, blackberries and cranberries, and light tannins. Cherries and blood oranges emerge; mid-palate, herbal notes, cherry stalks, and black peppercorns take over. It grows drier, moving to tobacco leaf, a faint floral rose touch, and plain kirsch. The finish is long, with leathery dryness, dark cocoa, bitter citrus rind, and abundant dried fruit. This is Port cask influence as expected: rich and robust on the nose, distinctly more vinous on the palate. Fairly well balanced, though The Whisky Agency offered more elegant Port-matured expressions in this tasting round.
