About
Green Douglas is a Belgian single grain whisky from the Rademacher distillery, an unlikely gem from Flemish whisky country. This five-year-old expression spent years as a budget supermarket find (around €15), overlooked despite its genuine merit. What's notable here is a young grain spirit mature enough to reward attention, without the harshness that plagues many whiskies of this age. The nose opens cautiously with straightforward bourbon-cask signatures: corn, sugar, breakfast cereals. Coconut arrives with unexpected force, lending a tropical tilt. You sense the youth, but presented honestly rather than as a flaw. On the palate, that grain-forward sweetness carries through cleanly, with vanilla touches from the young wood. The finish is crisp and dry, unpretentious. This is whisky that needs no tricks. For those who enjoy young grain spirits without marketing flourish, or simply curious about what's made outside Scotland, it's a direct, affordable introduction to Belgian distilling.
