Green Spot traces its roots to the 1880s, when Mitchell & Son—a Dublin wine and whiskey merchant—began maturing new make spirit from Jameson in their own casks. The name comes from the coloured dots Mitchell & Son used to mark their casks in the underground cellars beneath Dublin's streets. This is not merely a whiskey; it is a direct link to a vanished era of independent bonders who shaped Irish distilling.
Green Spot matures entirely in ex-wine casks, which defines its characteristic sweetness and silky texture. Production is limited to roughly 500 tonnes annually, underscoring its exclusivity. The whiskey is bottled at 40% ABV.
On the nose, bright citrus and apricot emerge alongside vanilla and butterscotch. The palate delivers creamy caramel and orchard fruit with a subtle spice that prevents cloying sweetness. The finish is clean and fruity, with nutty echoes that linger. This is a whiskey that wears its artisanal heritage openly—smooth enough to drink neat, yet structured enough to reward attention.
