The Family Reserve
Destilerías y Crianza del Whisky (DYC) was founded in 1959 by businessman Nicomedes García Gómez, who had discovered traditional whisky-making methods during trips to Scotland. He brought this knowledge back to Palazuelos de Eresma, Segovia, establishing Spain's first whisky distillery—an ambitious venture to craft world-class whisky beyond Scotland's borders. The Blend Finest Old represents that ambition: a marriage of malt and grain whiskies, aged a minimum of eight years in American oak.
The nose reveals honey, vanilla, and floral notes, with subtle smoke and spice threading through. On the palate it is light and oily, vanilla and caramel gradually giving way to orchard fruit. The finish is medium and smooth, with oak and citrus fading gently.
This is a whisky that makes no false claims—not a heavy, peaty Islay style, but an honest blend that proves skilled distilling happens beyond Britain's shores. For drinkers seeking an alternative to the well-trodden Scottish path.
