Oloroso Sherry Cask

Timeless
Miltonduff was founded in 1824 by Andrew Peary and Robert Bain, shortly after the Excise Act of 1823. The distillery sits six miles southwest of Elgin and takes its name from the Duff family, local landowners on whose estate it was built. This 2012 vintage from The Ultimate Selection is a ten-year-old Speyside single malt, matured in a refill Oloroso sherry butt (cask #900675).
The nose is strong and effective, with liquorice and malt, roasted nuts and toasted bread, butterscotch and fudge. The palate shows the sherry influence clearly, thick and dessert-like in texture. The finish is warm and lingering, with pleasant alcohol warmth.
This is a whisky for those who appreciate Speyside balance but are curious about the character of a less celebrated distillery. The refill Oloroso maturation adds depth without overwhelming the spirit.
