King Alexander III honours a Scottish legend from 1263, when Colin Fitzgerald of Clan Mackenzie saved the reigning king from a charging stag during a hunt. That pivotal moment established the bond between the Mackenzie family and what would become the Dalmore Distillery. This bottling celebrates that historic connection.
The whisky is matured across six cask types: ex-bourbon barrels, Matusalem oloroso sherry, Madeira, Marsala, port pipes, and Cabernet Sauvignon. This multi-cask approach creates a layered character: vanilla and toffee notes balanced with hazelnut, nutmeg, and dark berries.
In the glass, it presents as smooth and approachable. The modest 42.8% ABV delivers no harsh edges—a deliberate choice that prioritises drinkability. The interplay of six wood influences yields sweetness tempered by subtle spice and oak, with a medium finish that echoes dried fruit and woodsmoke.
