Pomerol Finish
Bowmore was founded in 1779 by David Simpson, making it Islay's oldest licensed distillery. This 1980s bottling, presented in the distinctive 'Dumpy Old Bottle' style, is a rare example of an earlier generation of Bowmore — difficult to directly compare with current 12-year expressions.
Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, the whisky reflects Bowmore's signature balancing act between maritime peat and warming sweetness. At 43% ABV, this vintage retains a full, expressive character.
The nose reveals fine grass and floral notes layered with earthy undertones, light chocolate, and liquorice, finishing with ripe apricot and a whisper of violet. The palate opens cool and creamy with praline character, transitioning into peppery smoke and fruity sweetness. The finish stretches long and complex, smoke and fruit intertwining.
