Penderyn is Wales' first commercial whisky distillery in over a century. Founded in 2000 by a group of friends meeting in a pub in Hirwaun, it restored distilling to Wales after a hundred-year gap. The distillery sits in the Brecon Beacons National Park and sources water from the surrounding mountains for production. Rich Oak is distilled in a distinctive Faraday still and matured in ex-bourbon and European wine casks. This cask combination gives the whisky its signature character: bourbon provides vanilla and softness, while European oak contributes richness and texture. On the nose, Rich Oak shows tropical fruit, vanilla, and subtle spice notes. The palate is creamy and smooth, with an appealing balance between fruit and oak tannins. A straightforward Welsh single malt that demonstrates what Penderyn achieves through its distinctive distillation approach.
