Small Batch US*1

4.8 out of 5 (1 review)

Michter's carries a name rooted in American whiskey heritage stretching back to 1753. In the 1950s, owner Lou Forman revived the brand by blending the first names of his two sons—Michael and Peter—creating a name that has since become synonymous with meticulous quality control and tradition.

This Small Batch bourbon enters the barrel at an unusually low proof (103 proof), a deliberate choice that reflects Master Distiller Dan McKee's exacting philosophy: no US★1 expression is released until the tasting panel confirms it meets the standard. The new charred American oak casks are dried for 18 to 48 months before use, adding complexity without overwhelming the spirit.

On the nose, tropical fruit—papaya, kumquats, tangerines—mingles with vanilla and oak. The palate shows vanilla cream and light caramel leading into apple, pear, and plum, with nutty, toasted notes and a whisper of cinnamon. The finish is warm and lingering, sweet with brown sugar and spice.
