In 1884, James Buchanan seized an opportunity born from crisis. The phylloxera plague had devastated French brandy production, and he saw his moment to create a Scotch that could compete. Rather than copy competitors, he crafted a blend drawing malt from every region of Scotland, then aged it a minimum of twelve years. By 1898, Queen Victoria herself had granted him the Royal Warrant — a seal of approval that would define his legacy.
This expression is a study in restraint. Twelve years in oak builds depth without aggression. The palate opens with soft fruit — orange and green apple — followed by chocolate and a whisper of smoke. At 40% ABV, it drinks cleanly neat or over ice, never demanding attention but rewarding it when given. A blend built on a pioneer's vision and refined through time.
