Nikka Yoichi carries the legacy of Masataka Taketsuru, the 'Father of Japanese Whisky'. In 1934, he established this distillery in Yoichi, Hokkaido, seeking a climate akin to Scotland—a choice that embodied his vision for authentic whisky-making. This 10-year-old single malt remains a living expression of that pioneering tradition.
Yoichi employs peated malt and direct coal-fired distillation, a rare technique that defines the whisky's characteristic smokiness and robust character. A substantial portion matures in ex-sherry casks, adding depth and subtlety to its malty core.
On the nose and palate, this whisky reveals malty sweetness with buttery, custard-like textures and hints of sandalwood. Gentle smoke weaves through earthy undertones and crushed mint. The finish is medium-length, warm and dry, with lingering peat that anchors Yoichi's Hokkaido identity.
