About
Springbank is one of Scotland's most independent distilleries, located on the Kintyre peninsula in Campbeltown. Family-owned by J&A Mitchell & Company since 1828, Springbank remains the only distillery in Scotland to conduct 100% of production on a single site — from floor malting through bottling. This self-sufficiency makes Springbank a rare survivor in modern whisky production. The 7 Years Red is a cask strength expression at 57.1% ABV, where malt character takes centre stage. The name likely refers to the casks employed — possibly red wine or burgundy casks, which Springbank regularly uses for finishing. At this age, the whisky displays the full, oily texture Springbank is known for, without excessive wood influence. On the nose, malt sweetness emerges with mineral undertones and a subtle smoke. The palate is substantial and textured, developing into a dry, assertive finish characteristic of Springbank's unpolished house style.
