The Famous Grouse was born in 1896 when Matthew Gloag transformed his family drinks merchant business in Perth into a distillery. The name draws from Scotland's iconic red grouse, a symbol of Highland sport and tradition. This Sherry Cask Finish expression is a blend of Speyside malts and grain whiskies, with portions matured in European oak sherry casks from Jerez, adding richness and complexity.
The blend balances the softness of grain whisky with the depth of roasted malt. The sherry maturation delivers warmth without excess — vanilla, dark chocolate, and dried fruit notes evoke Christmas cake, anchored by subtle oak. It's a whisky designed for everyday pleasure rather than contemplation, approachable yet layered enough to reward attention.
The finish is smooth and inviting, with warming notes of dried fruit that linger gently. This is a working blend: reliable, unpretentious, and built for the drinker who values balance over spectacle.
