Tomatin takes its name from the Gaelic 'Tom Aitinn'—the hill of the juniper bush—a botanical heritage that aligns with the distillery's own identity: 'The Softer Side of the Highlands'. The Portwood is a relatively recent addition to the core range, designed to underscore that softness without sacrificing depth.
The whisky matured first in bourbon casks, then finished in tawny port casks—a pairing that feeds Highland fruitiness without overwhelming it. The result is a 14-year-old single malt at 46% ABV, non-chill-filtered and naturally coloured.
The nose reveals honeydew melon, baked apple and honeycomb, with toffee and dark chocolate emerging gradually. On the palate, cereal notes and dry fruit give way to apricot and plum, with a medium finish where fruitiness lingers. Red berries, vanilla and a gentle spice thread through both stages. This is a whisky that rewards attention.
