Ben Nevis was founded in 1825 by John MacDonald, nicknamed 'Long John', whose name would later become synonymous with the renowned Long John blended Scotch. This 2012 Octave is a Duncan Taylor independent bottling, part of their Octave series. The name refers to the cask itself: a small vessel holding just 45–50 litres, which creates more intense wood contact than standard-sized barrels.
Matured for ten years in an octave cask, this whisky delivers concentrated character at 54.7% ABV. The compact vessel intensifies flavour extraction and contributes notable oak tannins without overwhelming the spirit.
The nose reveals ripe orchard and tropical fruit — grapes, banana, stone fruits — with a whisper of almond. On the palate, it's creamy yet crisp, showing sweet fruit and a tingling spice that builds toward the finish. The octave cask's tannins provide structure and grip, shaping a whisky with real presence and depth.
