2015 100 Proof Edition #41 Signatory Vintage
Superstition takes its name from the Diruachs, the ancient inhabitants of the Isle of Jura, who were said to be deeply superstitious. This lightly peated single malt reflects the distillery's unique position: founded in 1810, rebuilt between 1960 and 1963 by Robin Fletcher and Tony Riley-Smith, Jura sits at the crossroads between Highland and Island character, a duality that defines this release.
Matured in American bourbon barrels, Superstition walks an unusual line between smoke and sweetness. On the nose, honey, dark chocolate, ginger and citrus emerge in layers—so versatile it almost reads as a blend. With air, the whisky becomes noticeably sweeter, revealing vanilla, caramel and salted toffee beneath the peat.
At cask strength (66% ABV), white and black pepper dominate the palate, alongside smoke and soft leather. Dark chocolate and raisin anchor the middle, while the finish is long and dry—tobacco, burnt coffee, and a hint of boxed cereal fade slowly, the bitterness tempering the earlier sweetness.
