Sauternes Cask Finish

Arran Distillery reopened in 1995 on the Isle of Arran after more than 160 years without whisky production. This Sauternes Cask Finish exemplifies the distillery's approach to finishing — using French wine casks to add unexpected depth to its core spirit.

Following eight years of maturation in traditional oak, the whisky spends time in Sauternes casks, acquiring its golden hue and a persistent sweetness characteristic of the Bordeaux dessert wine. At 50% ABV, the spirit carries enough weight to integrate the wine influence without losing its own character.

The nose opens with floral notes and melon, followed by pear, apricot, and honey. The palate reveals honey, vanilla, and dried spices, with underlying salt and oak tannins providing structure. The finish is long and full-bodied, with tropical fruit and honey fading gradually into a subtle bitter edge.
