Madeira Cask Finish

2006
Ben Nevis was established in 1825 by John MacDonald, known as 'Long John', at the foot of Scotland's highest mountain. The distillery is recognised for its intense, spicy character — Ben Nevis regularly employs peat smoke in malt drying, a practice that leaves a distinctive mark on its spirits.
This 2013 vintage, aged eight years, displays the characteristic Nevis personality: a dry, peppery profile with notes of stewed apple and the subtle 'funk' typical of the distillery. The texture is firm, with a bitter-sweet balance that persists even with water.
On the palate, dried spices and tree nuts emerge — walnuts and pecans alongside a pronounced peppery warmth. The finish is clean and dry, with lingering notes of burnt grain and a faint tobacco edge. This is a whisky that doesn't court smoothness, but rather asserts its character with conviction.
