Diageo's annual Special Releases series allows Lagavulin to explore experimental directions beyond its core range. This 12-year edition follows a fresh approach, emphasising thoughtful cask work. Matured in refill casks and Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso-seasoned European oak, it offers a refined take on the distillery's signature character.

The nose leads with bold smoke and ash, followed by saline notes and a whisper of petrol. Water reveals rooty tension beneath. The palate is smooth and lightly oily, with a robust core balancing smoke and ash against sweet malt. Milk chocolate, artisan bread, citrus peel and creamy vanilla layer in. The finish stretches long and layered.

Bottled at 56.5% without excess heat, this release speaks to those seeking Lagavulin's peat and maritime essence outside the familiar 16-year standard.
