.de Malt von Horst Lüning Batch 2 / 2021

Horst Lüning, tasting director of Whisky.de, realised his dream after 25 years: creating his own Scottish malt whisky. Rather than source from a single distillery, he married malts from multiple producers — primarily ex-bourbon cask stock, supplemented with a handful of ex-sherry casks. The goal was complexity, affordability, and authenticity.

This ten-year-old blended malt is non-chill-filtered with no added colour. The bourbon-matured component delivers fresh, fruity character, whilst the sherry-aged whiskies contribute aromatic depth. Together they strike a balance between approachability and layered flavour.

On the palate, a soft, malty whisky emerges with citrus notes and subtle sherry undertones. The finish is mild and medium-length, touched with a whisper of oak. This is a dram for those who value flavour clarity without bombast — exactly what Lüning set out to achieve.
