Glen Elgin was founded in 1898 by William Simpson, a former Glenfarclas manager, and banker James Carle—at a turning point when Scottish whisky's Victorian boom began to fade. Owned quietly by Diageo ever since, the distillery has remained largely out of the spotlight, producing understated Speyside malt without fanfare or public visits.

The 12-year-old expression distils what Speyside does best: soft and malty, with heather honey on the nose supported by apple and toffee. The palate unfolds with peppery fruit, ginger, and red berries, while dried spices and pepper shape the finish. Despite a modest 43% ABV, there's a robust spirit underneath the light, fruity surface.

This whisky proves you don't need fame to be interesting. Glen Elgin 12 delivers more depth than its price tag suggests—fruitcake in a bottle, as it's sometimes called.
