The Dalmore King Alexander III honours a Scottish legend from 1263, when a member of Clan Mackenzie saved King Alexander III from a charging stag. In gratitude, the king granted the clan the right to bear a royal stag in their coat of arms—an emblem that still graces every bottle today.
This single malt is crafted from six different cask types: ex-bourbon casks, Matusalem sherry casks, Madeira, and other specialised finishes. The interplay of these vessels creates a whisky with unexpected depth and layered character that moves well beyond a typical Highland expression.
On the nose, red berry fruits and passion fruit emerge first, followed by citrus zest, vanilla pod, and crème caramel on the palate. A playful spice undercurrent runs through—stewed cherries, roasted chestnut, a hint of liquorice—with a polished, well-integrated finish that lingers without heaviness.
