Ledaig Sinclair Series

4.0 out of 5 (2 reviews)

The Sinclair Series honours John Sinclair, the kelp merchant who founded the distillery on the Scottish isle of Mull in 1798, naming it Ledaig—'safe harbour'. This inaugural bottling of the new experimental range marks a return to those historical roots with a transatlantic twist: after maturing in bourbon casks, the whisky was finished in Rioja casks from northern Spain, layering complexity onto the classic Ledaig template.

The bourbon and red-wine cask marriage creates a productive tension. Ledaig's peaty, smoky core—iodine, tar, medicinal notes—meets the stewed red fruits, strawberry jam and vanilla sweetness of the Rioja finish. On the palate, it's creamy and full-bodied, almonds and barley giving way to black raspberries, cocoa and cinnamon, with a thread of freshly cut grass.

This is Ledaig that refuses a single identity, instead balancing Scottish peat against Spanish fruit—two voices in conversation rather than one overwhelming the other. A whisky for those who relish character and layers.
