Glenfarclas has been family-owned since 1865, one of Scotland's rare independent distilleries. The 10 Years is the entry point to their range and reveals why the Grant family has built their reputation on sherry cask maturation.
Ten years in Oloroso casks (European oak) yields a golden spirit with full body but no heaviness. The nose opens with dried fruit, vanilla, and cinnamon, underpinned by a clean malty base. The balance is striking—the wood doesn't overwhelm, and the sherry influence feels integrated rather than imposed.
On the palate, toffee and honey emerge alongside green apple and citrus, which cut through the sweetness with welcome freshness. The finish runs long and spicy, with hints of chocolate and oak tannin. This is a measured, well-made Speyside that proves sherry maturation needn't be loud or one-dimensional.
