Maker's Mark 101 is a bolder expression of the brand's signature wheated bourbon. Founded in 1953 by Bill and Margie Samuels in Loretto, Kentucky, the distillery began with an act of creative defiance: burning a 170-year-old family recipe to create something new—one that swapped traditional rye for wheat. This choice set Maker's Mark apart in the bourbon landscape.
The 101 Proof bottling adheres to the same mash bill: 70% corn, 16% soft red winter wheat, and 14% malted barley. At 50.5% ABV, it delivers a bolder character than the standard expression while retaining the brand's signature creamy, soft-spoken style.
On the nose, vanilla and hazelnut emerge alongside a hint of apple and oak. The palate brings warm caramel, brown sugar, and gentle spice with a pleasant mouthfeel. The finish is soft yet lingering—vanilla surfaces slowly, accompanied by a pleasant wood warmth without harshness.
