Tamnavulin was built in 1966 on the site of a 16th-century mill, its Gaelic name — meaning 'mill on the hill' — preserved to this day. Since its founding by Invergordon Distillers, the distillery has changed hands several times and is now owned by Emperador. This Red Wine Cask Edition stands out through its finishing in American Cabernet Sauvignon casks, following initial maturation in ex-bourbon barrels.
The interplay of bourbon and red wine cask influence creates a distinctive balance: American oak vanilla meets the fruity, tannic character of Cabernet. The result is a Speyside single malt with pronounced red-fruit notes—plums, blackberries, cherries—supported by honey and subtle nutty undertones.
On the palate, a soft, approachable character emerges: damson jam, almond, and a whisper of spice. The finish is clean and warming, with a gentle fade despite its modest 40% ABV.
