In 1999, Switzerland finally lifted its decades-long prohibition on grain distillation. Brauerei Locher, a brewery in Appenzell, seized the opportunity and created Säntis Malt – Switzerland's first single malt whisky. The Dreifaltigkeit (Trinity) takes its name from a local mountain peak and represents the heart of Locher's venture into unconventional maturation.

The whisky's distinctive character emerges from aging in old beer casks, some up to 120 years old. These wooden vessels impart a profile that stands apart from traditional Scottish malts. Bottled at 52% ABV with no age statement, the Dreifaltigkeit retains the full force of this unusual cask environment.
