Scallywag is Douglas Laing's blended malt brand, built on combining malts from multiple Scottish distilleries. The Winter Edition returns each year as a limited release with rotating cask finishes tied to the season. This edition is finished in Ice Wine casks sourced from the frozen vineyards of Eastern Europe, delivering a distinctive sweet and fruity character.

The Ice Wine cask finish brings unexpected richness: the natural concentration of freeze-harvested grapes yields honey, red berries, and baked apple on the nose, followed by a creamy, full palate. Bottled at cask strength (52.4% ABV), it remains unchillfiltered and naturally coloured, preserving the full intensity of the cask interaction.

This is seasonal whisky taken seriously—not as a label device, but as genuine cask strategy. The Ice Wine finish creates a warm, sweet conclusion suited to cold months, without tipping into mere sweetness.
