Tomatin takes its name from Scottish Gaelic 'Tom Aitinn'—hill of the juniper bush. Founded in 1897 by local entrepreneur John MacDougall following the arrival of the Highland Railway, the distillery sits at 315 metres elevation, making it one of Scotland's highest. In 2015, the 12-year-old expression was reformulated: ABV rose from 40% to 43%, deepening the flavour profile and earning multiple international awards.

The whisky matures first in ex-bourbon barrels for over eleven months, then finishes in Spanish ex-sherry casks for six to nine months. This two-stage ageing builds the soft, velvety character Tomatin pursues—complexity without harshness.

On the nose, red fruits and honey emerge alongside vanilla, apple and pear. The palate is rounded and approachable: caramel and almond balanced by gentle oak and spice notes. A whisky that validates Tomatin's deliberate pursuit of silky smoothness rather than aggressive intensity.
