Clydeside Napier is named after Robert Napier, the pioneering marine engineer who transformed Clyde shipbuilding in the 19th century. This is more than homage: the distillery itself stands where Napier's legacy was built, in the converted Pump House on Glasgow's historic waterfront.
The whisky is matured in oloroso sherry casks, lending subtle but persistent influence. Clydeside follows a unique cask recipe devised by Dr. Jim Swan, blending first-fill bourbon, sherry, STR, and refill bourbon casks. The barley is sourced entirely from Lowland farms and fermented with water from Loch Katrine—a deliberate choice to craft an authentic Lowland single malt.
On the nose, Napier reveals ripe berries and sweet rose with tropical undertones. The palate is smooth and oily, unfolding orange marmalade, cherry, and vanilla, with a warming finish of clove and ginger. This is not a sherry bomb—rather, a measured conversation between the soft Lowland spirit and restrained cask influence.
