Caledonia

4.3 out of 5 (2 reviews)

Edradour holds the distinction of being Scotland's smallest distillery, nestled in the Highlands east of Pitlochry. This Caledonia expression is a special release named after songwriter Dougie MacLean's iconic 1977 song of the same name. MacLean himself selected the sherry casks for this bottling—a collaboration realised under Andrew Symington's stewardship at Signatory Vintage, which acquired the distillery in 2002.

The whisky spent over 42 months finishing in oloroso sherry casks, developing a deep, layered character. The majority of maturation occurred in ex-bourbon barrels before the sherry cask phase imparted its full influence.

On the nose and palate, this is a generous, sweetly sherried dram. Raspberry and dark dried fruit emerge alongside warming spice—ginger and black pepper—interwoven with toffee, honey, and almond notes. The finish is substantial and lingering, with oak and subtle earthy undertones that anchor the inherent sweetness, creating a whisky of considerable presence and balance.
