Glen Grant was founded in 1840 by brothers John and James Grant in Rothes, Speyside. John had a reputation as a former smuggler before transitioning into legal distilling—a shift emblematic of many Scottish distilleries in that era. The 18 Years is renowned for its balance between maturation in ex-bourbon barrels and remade hogsheads, preserving the spirit's integrity across two decades.
This whisky presents full and floral on the nose, with dried fruit notes such as raisins and apricots, complemented by vanilla and honey. On the palate, malt, butterscotch and sultanas emerge, while the finish lingers long with nutty and spiced sweetness. The oily viscosity speaks to its age, without heavy wood influence taking over.
