A Tale Of Spices
About
A Tale of Spices emerged from a collaboration between Dr. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie's Director of Whisky Creation, and Master Blender Gillian Macdonald. The pair experimented with Moroccan red wine casks for the first time, a venture that produced this distinctive limited edition. The name captures the exotic spices that define both its construction and character. The whisky matures initially in ex-bourbon barrels before being finished across four different cask types: Moroccan red wine casks made of French oak, Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, shaved and toasted red wine casks, and freshly charred new oak. This layered finishing regime creates rich, complex flavours rarely seen in Glenmorangie's core range. In the glass it presents a deep coppery gold. The nose opens with floral sweetness—rose, carnation, jasmine—alongside warming spices: cumin, saffron, nutmeg. The palate develops a creamy mouthfeel with pronounced spice: pink peppercorns, nutmeg, clove, balanced by hints of cherry liqueur and citrus. The finish lingers warm and peppery, with sustained ginger and spice.
