Knockando was established in 1898 by John Tytler Thomson in the Speyside village from which it takes its name — derived from the Gaelic 'Cnoc Cheannachd', meaning 'Hill of Commerce'. This 15-year-old expression embodies classic Speyside craft: a whisky that pursues balance between fruit and oak, without pretension.
Maturation took place in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, a pairing that defines the Knockando house style. The bourbon contributes clarity and structure, while the sherry adds sweetness and depth. The result is a whisky with character that builds rather than overwhelms.
On the nose, baked apples and dried fruit emerge alongside dark chocolate and toasted oak. The palate is fruity and nourishing, with a dry finish punctuated by sweet spices. This is a whisky for those who value equilibrium over intensity — a dram that reveals itself gradually with each pour.
