Virgin Oak
Divergence Whisky was born in 2015 when four whisky enthusiasts in Christchurch, New Zealand, set up a small distillery. Their Virgin Oak is a 100% New Zealand single malt, made entirely locally—from grain to water—and matured exclusively in virgin European oak casks of 100 litres. This is no cautious approach: the casks are heavily toasted and charred, delivering aggressive oak influence and intense vanilla.
The nose reveals sweet, aromatic character with soft fruit notes reminiscent of nashi pears and poached fruit. On the palate, full oak character emerges, supported by dark chocolate and a hint of orange liqueur that keeps everything lifted. The finish is warm and oaky, with those chocolate notes lingering.
This is a whisky unafraid of wood—Virgin Oak embraces the intensity of virgin oak and lets it lead. For those who relish pronounced oak influence and aren't deterred by full, woody character.
