Peated Irish Whiskey Cask Strength

3.5 out of 5 (1 review)

Achill Island Distillery, founded in 2015 by John McKay, is Ireland's first island-based whiskey distillery. This Peated Irish Whiskey emerged from the vision to craft peated expressions on Irish soil, drawing inspiration from Achill's boglands. The single pot still is bottled at cask strength (60%), underscoring the intensity of the spirit.

The nose reveals soft smoky notes with underlying fruitiness and floral character. On the palate, green apple, caramel, and baking spices emerge, complemented by almond and an earthy, floral peat smoke. The finish is long and layered, with lingering sweetness and smoke.

This is a surprisingly approachable peated whisky despite its high alcohol content—not aggressive, but decidedly present. A limited release of just 400 individually numbered bottles.
