blended malt scotch whisky

Johnnie Walker Black Label was never made in a single distillery. Instead, it emerged from a carefully crafted blend of malt and grain whiskies sourced across Scotland. The story began in 1820 when grocer John Walker established his business in Kilmarnock; his son Alexander created the blend in 1865 that would eventually become Black Label. In 1906, it received its current name and the iconic square bottle with slanted label—a design still instantly recognizable today.

The composition follows the classic blended Scotch formula: approximately 65–80% grain whisky forms the foundation, while 20–35% malt whiskies add depth and character. This ten-year expression balances light smoke with fruitiness and a soft, vanilla-tinged texture.

On the nose, toffee and vanilla lead, followed by apple and pear with hints of honey and gentle pepper. The palate is soft and balanced—unpretentious yet refined enough to drink neat or serve as the foundation for a classic cocktail.
